Anthony Lister documentary trailer

I went to see Les Miserables last weekend and, during the previews/ads/self-help segment, I saw the trailer for Anthony Lister's forthcoming documentary Lister.

I got happy for ~3 seconds because it felt like this blog mattered, like something I cared about was good enough for real-world people to turn into a film using a lead character + narrative arc + commentary on contemporary art.

Then I felt sad again at the realisation that one more street/gallery/fictional artist was no longer our secret, but would become another dinner discussion with the parents/grandparents/Jesus.

Will you see Lister's doco when it comes out? Not sure if I'll watch it, or just focus on blogging 'illegal' street art on Instagram + Facebook :(

New film Obey the Giant

Obey the Giant is an ambitious new narrative film being produced by students at the Rhode Island School of Design in the US.

Currently in post-production, the film tells the story of a young Shepard Fairey's first act of street art. According to the trailer, the now-famous artist vandalised a campaign billboard for Buddy Cianci - who was running for re-election as mayor of Providence on Rhode Island - in the 1980s.

The team of 150 who worked on the project are unable to finish it. They were asking for $30,000 in donations to finish it off. They reached that target and are now asking for $70,000. I wonder if the Kony 2012 campaigners were this successful?

Neckface and Isaiah Secret film

This is some trailer for some film called Born Under a Bad Sign created by sometimes anonymous graffiti artist Neckface and controversial filmmaker Isaiah Secret.

It looks like a B grade cross between Kill Bill and Exit Through The Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon but that somehow doesn't bother me.

This trailer proves that street artists who get into filmmaking - the postmodern medium of 'great storytelling'/monetising buzz brands - are able re-frame their already recognised symbols for a different audience.

This was filmed at MOCA in Los Angeles for the Art in the Streets exhibition.

1000 photos of darlinghurst and kings cross

Here's a video montage containing 1000 photos of Darlo and the Cross. They move quite fast so you might have to 'pause-play' 500-1000 times.

I wouldn't say it 'conveys a sense' of what these neighbourhoods are like, but it's a way to get an idea before you cum here.

This short gives you an idea of what Banksy's new film is about. Very, very awesome documentation of the street art movement. Really, really wish i had a widescreen monitor.
