Street artist Invader reaches space

French street artist Invader has achieved the ultimate placement of his famous video game mosaics. He tied a piece depicting a Space Invaders character approaching the "darkness of space". Is this crny, or one of the most successful unmanned space missions? Leave me a CMMT if you have time between tweets! Seriously, don't.

SAO PAULO: Space Invader

French street artist Invader is up on that ladder. He's sticking one of his famous mosaics on a wall somewhere in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Two guys are looking on. On the left is Mr Brainwash, on the right is Banksy.

Maybe.

Apparently this was Invader's first South American invasion. That's good, because there are enough of his mosaics in Paris to last until the French Ninth Republique. It's about time he ventured out. Like his forebear.

According to Unurth, Invader used Brazilian tiles to create his alien artworks. I can't imagine he'd actually want to ship French tiles across the world. Profit margins drop, social life suffers.

One of my best memories of seeing Invader's work was a massive piece, like this one here, at Brick Lane in London. I wasn't feeling well at the time. I'd been awake for two days and hadn't eaten and it was late afternoon and my body clock was shlocking to a halt.

I don't remember much about that afternoon, but I remember that black and white mosaic. I wonder how many young Brazilians will see Invader the way I have?

French video gamer Space Invader has been arrested in LA, according to a report on the LA Times blog.

Hyperallergic also reported the arrest, but I went straight to the LA Times because bloggers can't be trusted.

Here is what the Times said:

"The Los Angeles Police Department believes one of two French nationals detained on suspicion of vandalism near MOCA's Little Tokyo gallery was the famed street artist known as "Space Invader."

The pair were (sic) detained Friday after authorities reportedly caught them with buckets of grout and pieces of tile near the historic Perez building in Little Tokyo."

Was Space Invader getting up near MOCA to generate publicity for his brand around the Art in the Streets exhibition?

Perhaps the National Gallery of Australia sent him there to publicise its own exhibition called Space Invaders?

Does Space Invader deserve to be arrested since he's technically the antagonist?
