So last week I asked Acid Midget followers on Instagram to describe what this wheatpaste was about. I had no idea who made it or what it depicted (I still don't) when I found it. I also asked fans on Facebook and Twitter.

Sydney street art: Newtown

So where has Acid Midget been lately? I have no idea. But you're here, and so am I. A feeling of ambivalence has seeped inside me, like red wine stains teeth. What's the problem? I think you know...that's why you're here.

This is part of a large mural, by Hazzy Bee and Akisiew, on the streets of Newtown. On looking at it, I felt ambivalent again and a little lonely. Then realised I'm a man in a man's world and, with that idea fuelling me, I believed that other men would let me fix it.

In photography school they said "use the rule of thirds and your offspring will flourish" before realising rules made me sad. So, I've nicht idea what this mural is about - but I like it. Fifty Shades of Grey. Do you like random pondering? Do you like a person thinking freely without regard for fur form? Avoid the truth; it's all lies.

I've seen a few of these stencils around Newtown. They're a reminder to watch thy step. The streets are where crime/assaults/love happen, and I have a thing for you. Even though you don't know me, I _____ you.

Surf's up? No. Just a wheatpaste of a bro in short shorts and a sik tit tatt. Chitty chitty bang bang.

I stood on a crash barrier to shoot this. The artist, Syke, glued it to the side of a building. What's depicted on the board? The side of a building.

I promise to never tell you the truth.

Fukt Commbank subvertising, Newtown

While I was editing getUP or getOUT yesterday afternoon, Fukt sent me this juicy piece of subvertising he put up in Newtown, right next to the Martin Luther King mural.

The meaning of the very open-ended "Can't" Commonwealth Bank ad currently polluting Sydney bus shelters was given a kick in the ass here.

Oddly enough, Fukt now calls himself Jack Fennell on Facebook. Maybe he's losing it.

More Kosovo street art

It's great to be exposed to some street art that hasn't done the global publicity circuit. This is another reader-submitted photo of a paste-up found in Prizren, Kosovo.

The colours and light-hearted subject of the poster is offset nicely with the crumbling render. Great placement.

Mini Graf Obey, Krafty, Imposters wheatpaste **UPDATED**

Found this little wheatpaste outside a construction site in Darlinghurst.

I'm not sure what's being built there, but the artist might.

This poster depicts a public house which looks like a suburban home. Odd. It also has commercial logos tagged all over.

These are:

"OBEY", well that's a reference to the Shepard Fairey slogan, however, this version uses eBay typography.

"KRAFTY", mmmm love a bit of Krafty on my toast.

"IMPOSTERS" - that's a hit at Australian beer brewer Fosters. This company thinks if it re-badges Stella Artois as a locally made beer, which it has, it will make an easy buck.

Too bad it tastes like a locally made beer re-badged as Stella Artois (Stella is from Belgium).

I've seen the 'couple' standing in the pub's window outside the Hopetoun Hotel:

It's a clue to who the artist is. Please comment below if you know and I'll update this post.

Houl paste-ups outside dilapidated warehouse

I went to Midas yesterday to pick up my car, which was in for an oil change.

Apparently the car was falling to pieces. Luckily the Midas mechanic was there to help.

He said "mate, you Midas well have the best", and charged me more than $400 for oil, a little bit of air-con gas and some paper for an invoice.

Anyway, on the way there I saw Houl paste-ups on the front of a warehouse.

It continued over a few buildings, side-by-side, which were run-down and abandoned.

There was evidence that graffiti writing and street arting took place inside these buildings; dozens of beer bottles were piled up behind boarded windows.

This character looks like a geriatric snail shell-headed dude with long arms and tuft of muff tucked under the nose, hunch hints this too, but blue eyes hide hints of youth and proof of age.

The hair I can't explain.

 

I'm not sure if Houl made this bone burger.

UPDATE: Thanks goes out to Skel E Tor, who commented on Facebook that these two burger paste-ups are by SMC3 from his Eat Shit and Die series.

Is Skel E Tor and SMC3 the same dude?

Hi, I'm the Acid Midget. 

I take photos of street art and collate them on a weblog.

This not-for-profit project fills the hours between my two jobs - elephant breeding and directing stop-motion soft toy porn.

But street art fascinates me most because it speaks the language of dissent many left-leaning people are voiceless to express.

Anyway, I found this paste-up in Melbourne, feeling the same as this gruff lil kid.

My experience (sadness) in that space was mirrored in what I saw on this wall.

Without it, I'd only stare at advertising billboards and posters depicting gleaming models living model lives.

What do we relate to more - decaying angst or idealised grandeur?
