Anthony Lister mural in Sydney
Globetrotting artist Anthony Lister recently visited Sydney to paint this mural, which was found in Darlinghurst by an Acid Midget reader who submitted the photo. Lister does these murals when he isn't staging anti-Australian exhibitions, making drunk scribbles or scrawling aerosol around das Berlin. Er ist ein Übermensch.
What do you think an artist of Lister's calibre charges for a mural like this? And how do you think this compares to what he makes for canvases? A muralist recently told me the difference is significant. So how do even mid-level artists - whether bonafide street artists or just art school-trained bros painting for the lower classes - reconcile the difference between what business owners pay for paint versus collectors?
Yes, they are different mediums for separate audiences. Canvas is preserved indoors. Murals are weather-damaged and sometimes have "TOY" or "ART FAG" sprayed on top by low-level taggers using authenticity as an excuse to remain insignificant.
While money makes you unhappy, watch this short film that splices stock footage Lister supplied from his travels:

Sydney street art: Newtown
So where has Acid Midget been lately? I have no idea. But you're here, and so am I. A feeling of ambivalence has seeped inside me, like red wine stains teeth. What's the problem? I think you know...that's why you're here.
This is part of a large mural, by Hazzy Bee and Akisiew, on the streets of Newtown. On looking at it, I felt ambivalent again and a little lonely. Then realised I'm a man in a man's world and, with that idea fuelling me, I believed that other men would let me fix it.
In photography school they said "use the rule of thirds and your offspring will flourish" before realising rules made me sad. So, I've nicht idea what this mural is about - but I like it. Fifty Shades of Grey. Do you like random pondering? Do you like a person thinking freely without regard for fur form? Avoid the truth; it's all lies.
I've seen a few of these stencils around Newtown. They're a reminder to watch thy step. The streets are where crime/assaults/love happen, and I have a thing for you. Even though you don't know me, I _____ you.
Surf's up? No. Just a wheatpaste of a bro in short shorts and a sik tit tatt. Chitty chitty bang bang.
I stood on a crash barrier to shoot this. The artist, Syke, glued it to the side of a building. What's depicted on the board? The side of a building.
I promise to never tell you the truth.

Greek Debt Crisis means cuts
This new mural from Bleeps, an edgy street artist I've never heard of, suggests the Greek government will begin amputating models, or, less figuratively, allowing the economy to break to alleviate the Greek debt crisis.
Who's to blame for the European Debt Crisis?

Escif: Education for Citizenship, Valencia
Check out this hilarious mural by street artist Escif in Valencia, Spain. You can either get the book thrown at you, or failing that, the police could just beat everyone down.
Don't forget to #OccupyValencia.

NETHERLANDS: Roa & Resto
(Source)
Here is a sweet mural made by artists Roa and Resto somewhere in Nevereverland.
It depicts a fox getting tied down by little people with ropes - like a misunderstood Kong Kong or Godzilla :(
I think animal rights is going to become a staple theme for street art in 2012. Banksy has lacked good publicity stunts for the past few months. But you can help.
If you'd like to donate money to animal's rights please forward your donations to the World Wildlife Fund.
Thanks for your support.

BRISTOL: Banksy artwork destroyed
(Source)
The work of popular street artist Banksy has been attacked in a brazen act of vandalism and we must find who did it and 120 Days of Sodom them.
According to the Internet, Team Robbo and/or BSK were responsible for the attack on the four-year-old painting at Upper Maudlin Street, Bristol.
Here is the original:
Did Banksy deserve this attack? Does a living graffiti legend deserve critical immunity because he creates mass consumer irony?
The answer is [insert coin]

May Lane street art pt. III
Here is the third and final part of Acid Midget's May Lane Street Art Project series.
Today's music selection is 'Wait in the Dark' by Memory Tapes, from his new album Player Piano.
Wait In The Dark by Memory Tapes

This mixed media piece stares you in the face as you walk around. There are plenty of 'commissioned' pieces like this throughout the lane and a number of well-known artists have had their work hosted there.
Why are so many murals sombre? Is it because artists use distraught characters for emotive effect? No, I didn't think so.
The lady stencil reminds me of 2026. But as I often get names wrong, I'll save myself the hassle and say this was by Konsumterra.
You can do so much with found objects. This looks like a waving diabetic reindeer.
A crying Mongol.
If you see a cartoon pasted up in Sydney you can bet Jumbo or Zap did it. Looks like Zap did this one.
There was more to this piece than an iPhone lens can capture. I didn't want to stand at a sharp angle to squeeze it in. You wouldn't be able to read it. The irony is now you can't read the whole thing anyway.
Note to self: "Omar, you're a dick."
'Broken Memories' by Will Coles. He also did the next few sculptures.
'Dumb'.
A Postmodern cast of a newspaper stack and, top-left, a can which states "Asahi beer - my plemium bantazy."
You don't even know it, but each day you pack your child's lunch box with a 'soul-less' juice box. Then you get a few grey hairs and a divorce - and the kid is drinking motherf***ing Hahn Super Dry.
Just saying.
That brings these virtual tours of May Lane - one of Sydney's main street art and graffiti hubs - to a close.
Not everything I find on the streets gets blogged, so check out the Facebook page to see the extra bits.
Can we hold hands now?
Fin.

May Lane street art pt. II
This is part two of Acid Midget's May Lane Street Art Project series.
The piece above is by Stormie Mills, who does dreamy portraits of sad suicidal adults.
Today's music selection is Radiohead's 'Paperbag Writer':
Paperbag Writer by Jordan Chesney
Yes - this Yoko stencil has the face of Yoko Ono attached to the body of a sparrow or some bird. Next thing you know, there'll be graffiti artists drawing chickens with dickheads and calling themselves Dick Chicken.
Here is a yarnbomb I assume is by Denise Litchfield. It's getting pretty cold in Sydney. Might ask her to knit a scarf around my neck.
I haven't seen many of Ill's cat stencils in the past few months. Maybe it's because there's too many dogs out there.
This devil was part of a large piece sprawled across a wall. I decided to focus on the most 'personified' image because Acid Midget is an art fag blog made with an iPhone.
This keut manga-style mural is best consumed with the following one. Together they create an interesting narrative.
"Ohh Tommy!"? Ah. So there you go. Tom is tapping two grrls simultaneously. Sort of looks like this grrl is lifting her vest off.
I'm not sure what convinced me to publish this stencil.
Maybe it's because it looks so different, so 'unpolished' compared to everything else in May Lane.
The woman poses in a relaxed manner, her expression conveying confidence - d-d-dare I say - like the Mona Lisa.
Can someone explain what these are? Houses? Beasts? New wave indigenous art?
Two cent concrete stencil.
Leave a gold coin donation in the brim hat. Cheers.
May Lane is somewhere artists can cut their teeth. Or maybe grind their teeth on the kerb.
This one is from graffiti writer Pudl.
It's puddle man!
Another manga-style mural. I'm seeing hentai metaphors here and it's a little disconcerting.

CHIPPENDALE: Killer Slug dog mural
(Kensington St, Chippendale, Sydney)
These photos were submitted by bag, an Acid Midget reader who found this incredible Slug piece near a squat hole.
He also said it was destroyed with grey paint :( :( :( :( :( :(
There are three dogs in this piece. They are losing their shit to a soundtrack of maggots and meth.
Slug keeps getting better, doesn't he? He's so good that, apparently, he started working on his own 'mockumentary' called Exit Through the Crab Shop.
